Bio
Recruited from local side Newtown & Chilwell, Cec Hammer’s VFL career was a brief cameo during the tumultuous 1945 "War Season." Standing just 168cm, the teenage half-back flanker managed two senior appearances for the Cats in Rounds 8 and 9 before falling out of the rotation in a struggling Geelong lineup that managed only two wins for the year. While his time at Kardinia Park was short-lived, Hammer forged a successful post-VFL career across Bass Strait in the Tasmanian Football League. After initial stints with North Hobart, he crossed to Sandy Bay where he became a key defensive pillar, eventually celebrating a premiership victory in 1952 and earning state selection to represent Tasmania at the 1953 Adelaide Carnival.
