Bio
Recruited from Oaklands via Ovens and Murray powerhouse Yarrawonga, Cec Rheinberger arrived at Fitzroy as a promising teenager, making his senior debut at just 17 years of age. Standing 182cm, he appeared to be a long-term prospect for the Lions after a breakout second season where he featured 15 times, but he subsequently struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior lineup, spending the bulk of his final four years at the club in the reserves. While his VFL opportunities remained limited, Rheinberger eventually found genuine stardom in Tasmania after crossing the Bass Strait to play for Devonport. He dominated the North West Football Union (NWFU) in the mid-1970s, capped off by winning the prestigious Wander Medal as the league's best and fairest player in 1974. He remains an active supporter and familiar face at Fitzroy club events today.
