Recruited from the Southern Stingrays with pick 10 in the 1995 National Draft, Chad Morrison quickly established himself as a polished contributor for the West Coast Eagles. Operating primarily as a running half-back flanker and wingman, he was known for his damaging skills, pace, and capacity to drift forward and hit the scoreboard. His standing in the game rose significantly around the turn of the millennium, culminating in International Rules selection, but his progress was halted by a ruptured ACL sustained during the 2001 pre-season. While he successfully returned to the field, he eventually found himself squeezed out of an Eagles engine room that was rapidly evolving around the likes of Ben Cousins, Chris Judd, and Daniel Kerr.

Seeking a fresh start and regular midfield minutes, Morrison was traded to Collingwood at the end of 2004 in exchange for a third-round draft pick. He made an immediate impact at Victoria Park, playing all 22 games in the 2005 season and providing much-needed experience and ball use to the Magpies' lineup. However, his second year in black and white was less fruitful, as competition for spots and fading form limited him to just six appearances. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2006 season, finishing his career as a skilful utility who bridged two distinct eras at West Coast before serving as a veteran presence at Collingwood.
