Bio
Originally from Holbrook in New South Wales, Charlie Armstrong was a fair-haired defender who made his way to the VFL via South Yarra. He established himself as a consistent contributor during his single season with Geelong in 1912, playing 15 games for the Pivotonians before crossing to Melbourne the following year. Standing 180cm, Armstrong was a solid backman who rarely hit the scoreboard, booting just four goals across his entire league career. His time at the top level was severely interrupted by the Great War, during which he served in Gallipoli and France, a duty that saw him miss four prime seasons of football. He eventually returned to the Demons for one final season in 1919, closing out his career as a respected veteran who had sacrificed the peak of his sporting life for national service.
