Stats
Bio
Recruited from amateur side Brunswick Juniors during the First World War, Charlie Canet established himself as a tenacious wingman for Carlton after an initial stint in the back pocket. A lightly-framed but consistent ball-winner, he played finals football in every completed season of his career and rose to the vice-captaincy in 1920. However, his time at Princes Park was defined by a fractious relationship with coach Norman Clark, who initially passed him over for the top job. Although eventually appointed captain in 1921, Canet resigned the leadership after just six matches following a heated altercation with Clark, promptly leaving the VFL mid-season to accept a lucrative offer to captain-coach country side Nathalia.
