Bio
Arriving at Victoria Park from Rose of Northcote, Charlie Dummett carried a famous surname as the younger brother of Collingwood premiership captain Alf Dummett. He debuted as an 18-year-old half-forward and showed glimpses of talent near goal, but he found himself stuck on the fringes of a powerhouse Magpies squad that would soon claim the 1910 flag. Unable to force his way into the senior side consistently, his playing days ended after just four matches, yet his contribution to football proved enduring. Dummett found his true calling between the big sticks, forging a long career as a VFL goal umpire where he officiated 264 matches—including the 1933 and 1943 Grand Finals—setting a long-standing record for the most games umpired by a former player.
