Bio
Recruited from the Sandringham Dragons with pick 23 in the 2001 National Draft, Charlie Gardiner was a mobile forward who possessed strong hands and the capacity to work up the ground. He played his best football for Geelong in 2004, featuring in 19 games, but ultimately struggled to cement a permanent spot in a forward line that was evolving into a premiership powerhouse. Squeezed out of the side during the Cats' dominant 2007 campaign, Gardiner was traded to St Kilda in search of greater opportunity, crossing to Moorabbin alongside veteran ruckman Steven King. He managed 12 games for the Saints in 2008, including a Qualifying Final appearance against his former club, but was unable to secure a long-term future and was delisted at season's end. Since hanging up the boots, Gardiner has carved out a significant off-field legacy, working as a lawyer before returning to the elite level as the Executive General Manager of Football at the Sydney Swans.
