Bio
Recruited from Golden Point in the Ballarat Football League, Charlie Longhurst was a diminutive player who joined Melbourne just as the club entered a new era under legendary coach Frank 'Checker' Hughes. Arriving from the same country club as star teammate Percy Beames, the 173cm utility was lightly framed and relied on agility rather than size, featuring regularly in the senior side between 1933 and 1935. Despite his consistency in selection during this period, he rarely ventured forward to impact the scoreboard, finishing his career with just one goal to his name. Longhurst struggled to hold his spot in 1936, managing only three games in his final season, and he departed the VFL shortly before the Demons began their celebrated premiership run of the late 1930s.
