Bio
Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, Charles "Barney" Meadway arrived in the VFL via the Ovens and King Football Association as a recruit from Wangaratta. After managing just a single senior appearance for Carlton in 1906—a year in which the Blues would go on to win the premiership—he crossed the growing tribal divide to fierce rival Collingwood the following season, though he remained on the fringe of selection at Victoria Park. While his football career was brief and yielded only four games across two powerhouse clubs, Meadway found true sporting superstardom elsewhere, eventually becoming one of Australia's premier competitive shooters. A live-bird trap shooting champion who claimed multiple national titles, he famously went on to represent his adopted country at prestigious competitions in Monte Carlo long after hanging up his boots.
