Bio
Born in Fiji to a government official, Charlie Moore holds a unique place in history as the VFL's first overseas-born player and a cousin of the legendary Roy Cazaly. Recruited from Albert Park for the league's inaugural 1897 season, he defied his diminutive 169cm stature to become a dangerous full-forward known for his splendid marking and reliable place kicking. He topped the club's goalkicking in 1898 and was a key figure in the Same Olds' early dominance, but his career was cut short when he enlisted in the Victorian Imperial Bushmen at the end of the 1899 season. Tragically, Moore became the first VFL player to die in active service, killed in action during the Second Boer War at Quaggafontein in 1901.
