Bio
Recruited from the Western District town of Penshurst, Charlie O'Leary arrived at Footscray as a sturdy defensive prospect in the early 1930s. With a solid frame that allowed him to compete physically, he played a disciplined role in the back half of the ground, failing to register a goal across his entire league career. After finding it difficult to cement a regular spot in the Bulldogs' lineup over three seasons, O'Leary crossed to Fitzroy in 1936 seeking greater opportunities, though he remained a fringe player for the Maroons. His contribution to the game was ultimately overshadowed by his service to the nation, as he later enlisted in the Australian Army during the Second World War.
