Stats
Bio
Recruited from Rochester in country Victoria, Charlie Plane was a sturdy follower who became a regular fixture in the Geelong lineup during the club's build-up to its golden era. Standing 183cm and weighing 86kg, he possessed a powerful frame for the 1920s, allowing him to shoulder the heavy physical load in the ruck and contest the aerial ball. He was a consistent contributor between 1922 and 1924, missing only a handful of matches as the team improved its standing under the guidance of Cliff Rankin. Unfortunately, Plane became a hard-luck story of the club's breakthrough 1925 premiership season; he managed just two senior appearances that year and watched on as his teammates secured Geelong's first VFL flag against Collingwood. He finished his league career at the conclusion of that season, a reliable clubman who helped lay the foundations for success but missed the ultimate reward.
