Teams

Recruited from South Bendigo, Charlie Rowe’s path to the VFL was one of persistence, having previously trained with both Melbourne and Hawthorn without breaking into their senior sides. A former Xavier College student, the diminutive rover and wingman finally found his home at the Western Oval in 1926, joining Footscray in just their second season of league football. Standing only 170cm, Rowe compensated for his lack of size with agility and work rate, establishing himself as a reliable fixture in the Tricolours' midfield rotation. He remained a consistent contributor throughout the club's difficult foundational years in the VFL, missing only a handful of matches across his four-season tenure before departing at the end of 1929.
