Bio
Recruited from Avenel in the Goulburn Valley, Charles West was given a brief trial by South Melbourne late in the 1903 season. He made his debut in Round 13 against Essendon and held his spot for three consecutive weeks, also lining up against St Kilda and Collingwood during a difficult run of fixtures for the club. Unable to impact the scoreboard or cement a permanent position in the starting 18, his tenure at Lake Oval was short-lived. West left the VFL scene immediately after his third appearance, serving as a typical example of the transient country footballers who filtered through League lists during the early 1900s without establishing a long-term career.
