Bio
Recruited from Hume Weir in the Ovens & Murray Football League, Charlie Whitely was a lightly framed wingman and half-forward noted for his precise left-foot stab pass. After managing a solitary senior appearance for Richmond in 1925, he transferred to Hawthorn the following year in search of regular football. His debut for the Mayblooms against St Kilda proved to be a bittersweet conclusion to his league career; while he managed to boot a goal, he also sustained a fractured rib during the match that ultimately closed the book on his VFL playing days. Whitely eventually recovered to forge a solid career in the VFA, playing over 80 games for Prahran and Brunswick.
