Bio
Recruited from North Melbourne in the VFA, Charles "Chic" Breese joined Carlton as an experienced campaigner for the inaugural VFL season in 1897. He holds a permanent place in the club's history as a member of the team that took the field for Carlton's first-ever league match against Fitzroy. Operating primarily as a forward who could also rotate through the followers, Breese managed a modest goal tally in a side that struggled significantly during the competition's foundation years. He remained a regular fixture in the starting lineup throughout 1897 and 1898, providing veteran stability to the Blues' attack before parting ways with the club after two seasons.
