Bio
Born in the United Kingdom, Chris Burton was a skilful running utility who successfully transitioned from local football at Sunshine Heights to the VFL. He began his career at Footscray, where he established himself primarily as a wingman known for his evasive ability and accurate kicking on the run. After five seasons at the Western Oval, he transferred to Richmond ahead of the 1985 season alongside teammate Michael McKenna, seeking fresh opportunities at Punt Road.
At Richmond, Burton reinvented himself as a reliable back pocket defender who could still find plenty of the ball. His consistency in defence was a highlight during a difficult era for the Tigers, peaking in 1987 when he won the club's disposal count. While he played his final VFL game in 1988, he continued to have a significant impact at the state level, becoming a key member of Williamstown's 1990 premiership side and earning selection in their Team of the Decade.
