Bio
Hailing from Red Cliffs in the Sunraysia district, Chris Fowler was a towering ruckman who arrived at Melbourne with high expectations, debuting in the opening round of 1967 on a temporary permit. Initially finding the step up to VFL level difficult, he spent a stint developing his craft with Melbourne High School before returning to the senior side. Standing at 193cm, Fowler provided a strong contest in the air, but his time at the top level was cruelly cut short when he tore ankle ligaments in Round 8, 1969, an injury that ultimately ended his VFL career at just 20 years of age. Following his departure from the Demons, he moved to Canberra where he became a key figure for Eastlake, eventually overcoming a clearance dispute to earn representative honours for the ACT during the early 1970s.
