Bio
Recruited from the amateur ranks, Chris Hansen arrived at Fitzroy as a mature-age prospect with a formidable reputation, having claimed the Woodrow Medal with Old Trinity Grammarians in 1976. Standing at 196cm and weighing 100kg, he immediately added size and strength to the Roys' backline, debuting in 1977. Hansen established himself as a reliable key defender capable of taking on the league's monster forwards, though he could also pinch-hit in the ruck when required. His tenure at the Junction Oval coincided with a competitive era for the club, and he was a defensive pillar during their finals campaigns in 1979 and 1981, racking up 101 games in the maroon and blue.
Following the 1982 season, Hansen crossed to the Western Oval to join Footscray, bringing vital experience to a young Bulldogs list that was rebuilding after a few lean years. In 1983, he was often the only player on the field for the Dogs with over 100 games of VFL experience, providing a steady hand for emerging teammates like Simon Beasley and Brian Royal. He played two seasons in the tricolours, adding 28 games to his tally, before retiring from top-level football to focus on his career as a lawyer.
