Bio
A product of the West Adelaide football factory, Christopher Schmidt was originally selected by the Brisbane Lions with pick 34 in the 2006 National Draft. His time in Queensland was heavily impacted by osteitis pubis and persistent shoulder trouble, limiting him to just two senior appearances before he was delisted. Handed an AFL lifeline by the Adelaide Crows via the 2009 Rookie Draft, Schmidt returned to his home state where he was eventually elevated to the senior list as an injury replacement. He played his best football at the top level in 2010, operating as a defensive midfielder and half-back flanker who could find plenty of the ball but rarely hit the scoreboard. While he couldn't quite secure a permanent spot in the Crows' best 22, Schmidt's legacy is defined by his post-AFL career in the SANFL, where he returned to West Adelaide to become a club great, serving as a premiership captain and winning the Jack Oatey Medal as best on ground in the 2015 Grand Final.
