Bio
A product of Minyip in the Wimmera region, Claude Denman’s football journey was significantly delayed by the Great War, where he served as a corporal in the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion. Upon returning to civilian life, the 24-year-old was handed a VFL lifeline by a struggling St Kilda outfit that was en route to the 1920 wooden spoon. Standing just 170cm, Denman was a diminutive figure who was trialled late in the season as the Saints desperately looked to unearth fresh talent in a two-win year. He managed two consecutive senior appearances before falling out of the side, standing as one of many returned servicemen who made brief, forgotten cameos in the league during the immediate post-war rebuilding era.
