Bio
A former junior athletics star who held national age-group titles in discus and high jump, Clay Cameron was secured by the Gold Coast Suns as a Queensland zone selection in the 2012 draft. The Mt Gravatt product arrived as an athletic key position utility, standing 191cm with a prodigious leap that allowed him to compete against significantly taller opponents. He made a promising debut in the Suns' upset Round 1 win over Richmond in 2014, impressing with his composure and defensive desperation, but his development was hampered by hip issues and a bout of glandular fever. Cameron was frequently tasked with punching above his weight division as an undersized key defender when injuries depleted the Suns' backline stocks, often battling the competition's premier tall forwards. Despite showing glimpses of his intercepting ability and versatility, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior side and was delisted at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
