Bio
Recruited from South Adelaide with pick 24 in the 1993 National Draft, Clay Sampson began his AFL tenure at Melbourne but played only sporadically over two seasons before returning to his home state to join the Crows. This move proved pivotal, as he immediately slotted into the Adelaide lineup as a small forward and wingman, becoming a premiership player in the club's historic 1997 Grand Final victory over St Kilda. Despite that high point, Sampson struggled to consolidate his spot the following year and missed out on the 1998 back-to-back flag, eventually seeking a fresh start with Richmond. He spent his final two seasons at Punt Road providing depth as a rotational utility before his career concluded, remembered primarily for his contribution to the Crows' maiden premiership.
