Bio
Hailing from the rich footballing nurseries of the Western Australian Goldfields, Cleve McDiarmid was a star recruit for Geelong in the late 1920s. He originally made his name with the Kalgoorlie Railways Football Club, where his on-field dominance was significant enough to earn him a headline-grabbing "Farewell to Prominent Footballer" from the local press before he crossed the Nullarbor. Arriving at Corio Bay to join a Geelong outfit fresh off their 1925 premiership success, McDiarmid faced the difficult task of breaking into one of the league's most powerful lineups. He operated primarily as a forward option, showing glimpses of his talent by booting four goals in his six senior appearances during the 1927 season. While he could not cement a long-term spot in the senior eighteen, McDiarmid adopted Geelong as his permanent home, settling in the suburb of Newtown rather than returning to the west.
