Bio
Recruited from Preston in the VFA, Cliff Bennett earned his opportunity with Essendon as a 23-year-old during the challenging 1907 season. Joining a squad that was struggling for form and ultimately destined for the wooden spoon, Bennett was one of several players trialled late in the year as the club looked to salvage some pride and identify future talent. He made three senior appearances without scoring, featuring in the final round clash against South Melbourne at East Melbourne. Despite the late-season exposure, he was unable to cement a regular place in the side and left the league after his brief stint at the top level.
