Bio
Recruited from Werribee, Cliff McCrae established himself as a damaging half-forward at Footscray, notably booting five goals against Collingwood in the 1938 First Semi-Final. Despite his proven capacity to hit the scoreboard in major games, he fell out of favour at the Western Oval midway through the 1939 season and was cleared to the Magpies in a mid-year switch. McCrae made an immediate impact at his new club, kicking five goals on debut against South Melbourne to secure his place in the side for the finals series. He retained his spot for the 1939 Grand Final against Melbourne, a match that remarkably served as his final VFL appearance, ending his career on the league's biggest stage just months after being dropped by his original club.
