Bio
Recruited as a mature-age rookie from South Fremantle, Clinton Jones carved out a respectable career based on elite endurance and relentless work rate. After debuting for St Kilda in 2007, he quickly established himself as a key component of Ross Lyon's highly disciplined system, cementing a spot in the side as a premier run-with player. Jones was often tasked with shutting down the opposition's most dangerous midfielders, a role he performed with distinction during the Saints' dominant run that included appearances in the 2009 and 2010 Grand Finals. While his ball use was occasionally scrutinised, his ability to blanket stars and restrict their influence made him an invaluable asset during the club's premiership window.
Following St Kilda's aggressive list turnover, Jones was delisted at the conclusion of the 2014 season but was thrown an AFL lifeline by Essendon via the rookie draft. The Bombers sought experienced bodies to bolster their depth, and Jones managed 15 games in the red and black during the 2015 season, bringing his trademark defensive pressure to the contest. He was delisted a second time at the end of that year and returned to Western Australia, where he continued to play at a high level in the WAFL for the Perth Demons. Jones retired as a player who maximised his opportunities through sheer effort, leaving the game as a centurion and a respected tagger of his era.
