Bio
Recruited from Gisborne via the Calder Cannons, Clinton Young began his AFL journey as a selection in the 2005 Rookie Draft, quickly elevating himself to become a mainstay of Hawthorn's midfield. A prototypical wingman, Young was defined by his raking left-foot kick and line-breaking speed, traits that made him a critical link player in Alastair Clarkson's system. He cemented his place in club history as a key member of the 2008 Premiership side, where his ability to gain territory and convert long-range goals proved vital in the upset victory over Geelong.
At the end of 2012, Young exercised his rights as an unrestricted free agent to join Collingwood, a move designed to add elite kicking skills to the Magpies' lineup. However, his tenure at the club was frustrated by persistent soft-tissue injuries, particularly recurring hamstring strains, which limited him to just 21 appearances over three seasons. Unable to maintain continuity on the park, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2015 season, leaving the game remembered as a potent outside runner whose best football was central to Hawthorn's success in the late 2000s.
