Bio
Recruited from University Blacks, Col Galbraith is best remembered as the central figure in one of the most lopsided trades in league history. Originally signed by Richmond, the skilled utility was swapped to Melbourne without playing a senior game in exchange for Bill Morris, who would go on to win a Brownlow Medal for the Tigers. Galbraith’s own career was fleeting; after displaying finesse and rare dual-sided kicking skills in his 1944 debut season, he suffered a shattered kneecap in just his fourth appearance, forcing an immediate retirement. A Surgeon Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II, he maintained a lifelong connection to the Demons, returning to serve as the club’s honorary medical officer in the late 1960s.
