Bio
Recruited from South Fremantle as a mature-age defender, Colin Beard arrived at Punt Road under controversial circumstances, forced to sit out the entire 1968 season due to a bitter clearance dispute with the WAFL. When he finally donned the yellow and black in 1969, he immediately established himself as a rugged and uncompromising backman, often tasked with the physically demanding role of minding the opposition's resting ruckmen in the back pocket. His toughness was vital during Richmond’s 1969 premiership campaign, where he famously held his own against Carlton's heavy hitters in the Grand Final during his debut VFL season. After three years and a flag in Victoria, Beard returned to the west to cement his legacy as a premiership captain and coach with the Bulldogs.
