A product of the Fitzroy Under 19s system, Colin Hobbs developed into a hard-nosed utility who served the Lions faithfully during a lean competitive era in the late 1960s. Standing 182cm, he was typically deployed in defensive roles or as a rugged follower, where his uncompromising physical style and "take-no-prisoners" demeanour allowed him to hold his own against larger opponents. While he was a consistent contributor across his 64 games at Brunswick Street, Hobbs found his greatest footballing success after departing the VFL for the VFA. Crossing to Coburg, he became a central figure at the club, eventually captaining the side to the 1974 Division 2 premiership and cementing a legacy as a fierce on-field leader.
