Bio
Recruited from the prolific Riverina nursery of Collingullie, Colin Hounsell arrived at South Melbourne in 1975, representing the club's strategic focus on sourcing talent from country New South Wales. A busy rover with a sharp goal sense, Hounsell was known for his agility around packs and his ability to drift forward and hit the scoreboard, finishing his career just shy of a century of goals. His tenure spanned more than a decade, placing him in the pivotal group of players that navigated the club's tumultuous relocation from the Lake Oval to Sydney in 1982.
Although he battled for consistent selection at times, averaging around 11 games a season, Hounsell was a resilient contributor who managed 122 senior appearances. His career bridged two distinct eras of the franchise's history, providing experience and continuity during the difficult early years in the Harbour City. He retired after the 1985 season as a respected clubman who had helped lay the groundwork for the Swans' permanent establishment in Sydney.
