Recruited from Healesville after a prolific stint in the Yarra Valley League—where he famously booted over 100 goals in 1947—Colin Love was a talented forward who struggled to cement a regular senior spot in a powerful Melbourne lineup. Standing 183cm, he possessed the frame of a key position player but found himself on the fringe of a Demons squad fresh off the 1948 premiership. Although he showed promise in practice matches and managed 16 senior appearances over four seasons, his time at the club was highlighted by a premiership with the Reserves in 1949 rather than sustained VFL success. Seeking greater opportunity, Love transferred to the VFA midway through 1952 to join Box Hill, where he forged a distinguished legacy as a captain-coach and VFA state representative before later guiding Ringwood to a premiership.
