Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with the third overall pick in the 2003 National Draft, Colin Sylvia arrived at Melbourne with high expectations attached to his raw athleticism. He developed into a physically imposing midfielder-forward known for his explosive power, penetrating kick, and ability to take spectacular overhead marks. While his talent was undeniable, his ten-year tenure with the Demons was frequently characterised by inconsistency, with brilliant match-winning performances often interspersed with quiet outings. Despite these fluctuations and the club's on-field struggles during his era, he remained a significant contributor, finishing third in the 2010 Best and Fairest and representing Australia in the 2011 International Rules Series.
Seeking a fresh start and the prospect of finals football, Sylvia moved to Fremantle as a restricted free agent at the end of the 2013 season. The transition proved difficult, as he struggled to meet the rigorous conditioning standards demanded by the Dockers and failed to cement a spot in the senior side. After managing just six games across two seasons and spending the majority of his time with WAFL affiliate Peel Thunder, he retired from AFL football early in the 2015 season. Sylvia tragically passed away in a car accident near Mildura in 2018.
