Colin Waterson

Recruited from the small Mallee town of Nullawil, Colin Waterson was a talented tall utility whose modest VFL statistics belied his genuine ability. Standing 192cm with excellent agility and strong marking hands, he found himself starved of senior opportunities while battling for a spot in a powerhouse Richmond squad during their premiership era. Despite winning the Tigers' reserves Best and Fairest in 1980, he could not crack the senior side consistently and moved to Western Australia in 1982 for employment in the banking sector. It was in the WAFL where Waterson truly flourished, transforming into a dominant key forward and ruckman for East Fremantle; he ultimately played over 120 games for the Sharks, topped their goalkicking twice, played in a premiership, and earned state selection for Western Australia.
