Bio
Recruited from Swan Districts with pick 34 in the 2014 National Draft, Connor Blakely established himself at Fremantle as a prolific ball-winner capable of playing as an inside midfielder or rebounding defender. His early career showed significant promise, highlighted by a Rising Star nomination and a Simpson Medal-winning performance in Peel Thunder's historic 2016 WAFL premiership victory. Despite his consistent ability to accumulate possessions, Blakely struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Dockers' best 22 as the club reconstructed its midfield under Justin Longmuir, often finding himself on the fringe of selection. After being delisted by Fremantle following the 2022 season, he was offered a lifeline by Gold Coast in the Rookie Draft to provide experienced depth. Blakely spent his final year captaining the Suns' VFL side without adding to his AFL game tally, ultimately announcing his retirement at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
