A Gold Coast Suns Academy graduate, Connor Budarick entered the AFL via the rookie list and immediately established himself as a courageous and disciplined small defender. His time at Carrara was defined by his defensive accountability and composure, often tasked with nullifying dangerous opposition small forwards, but his momentum was repeatedly stalled by significant setbacks, including two ACL reconstructions. These long-term injuries restricted him to just 55 games across six seasons, preventing him from cementing a permanent role in the Suns' evolving backline. Seeking a fresh start and greater continuity after an interrupted tenure in Queensland, Budarick moved to the Western Bulldogs ahead of the 2026 season to revitalise his career as a lockdown specialist.
