Bio
Recruited from East Fremantle with pick 10 in the 2003 Rookie Draft, Courtney Johns arrived at Essendon as a highly touted key position prospect famously championed by coach Kevin Sheedy. His early career was severely hampered by chronic hip and groin issues, forcing him to wait until midway through the 2005 season to make his senior debut. An imposing physical presence recognisable for his flowing blond locks, Johns played as a strong-marking forward who developed a significant cult following among the bomber faithful, even as he struggled to translate his raw potential into consistent output at AFL level. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior side after overcoming his initial injury setbacks, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2008 season.
