Bio
Recruited from Woomelang in the Victorian Mallee, Craig Barbary was a speedy rover who arrived at Windy Hill with a glowing junior reputation, having represented Victoria at U17 level alongside future stars like Justin Madden and Roger Merrett. After breaking into the senior side for eight games in his debut 1979 season, Barbary showed glimpses of his pace and goal sense, but his progress was cruelled by a series of unfortunate injuries. He missed the entire 1980 season due to a severe leg injury sustained while playing cricket and suffered a broken ankle early the following year, restricting him to the Reserves where he featured in the 1981 Grand Final loss. Unable to regain his senior spot in Kevin Sheedy's emerging powerhouse, he moved to South Australia to play for Sturt in the SANFL before eventually returning to the Mallee as a captain-coach.
