Bio
Recruited from Leitchville in northern Victoria, Craig Cleave was a tall key defender who served Geelong throughout the bulk of the 1980s. Standing 191cm, he was a traditional centre half-back who found early success in the lower grades, anchoring the defence in the club's 1982 reserves premiership side. His transition to senior football was often hampered by injury, preventing him from locking down a permanent role in the starting 22 during a competitive era for the Cats. His most promising campaign came in 1986, but a mid-season dislocated shoulder curtailed his momentum just as he was establishing himself in the backline. Cleave ultimately remained a depth option at Kardinia Park, providing reliable defensive cover until the end of the decade.
