Bio
A local recruit from Leopold, Craig Dowsett made a promising start to his VFL career as a teenager, breaking into the Geelong senior side in 1978. The 175cm utility was famously selected for the club's Elimination Final loss to Carlton that year, playing on the big stage at just 18 years of age. Despite this early exposure to finals football, Dowsett struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Cats' lineup over the following three seasons, managing only four additional games before departing Kardinia Park. While his tenure at the elite level was brief, he went on to forge a distinguished career in country football, becoming a star for Golden Square in the Bendigo Football League where he won the prestigious Michelsen Medal as the competition's best and fairest player in 1986.
