Bio
A tall utility recruited from Leeton in the New South Wales Riverina, Craig Nettelbeck began his career with the Sydney Swans where he was utilised as a swingman capable of playing at both full-back and full-forward. Despite his athleticism—evidenced by his background as a junior national discus champion—he struggled to cement a regular spot in the Swans' best 22 and was delisted after five seasons. He joined Fremantle as a member of their inaugural squad in 1995 but was unable to break into the senior side for an AFL premiership match, spending the year in the WAFL before being thrown a lifeline by Melbourne in the pre-season draft. Nettelbeck played his most consistent football with the Demons, featuring in 20 games during his first year at the club, before persistent shoulder and back injuries forced his premature retirement and led to a transition into a successful career as a player agent.
