Bio
Recruited from Lucknow in East Gippsland, Craig Somerville broke into the Footscray side as a promising 17-year-old in 1986. A lively forward with genuine goal sense, he showed immediate potential by booting seven majors in just eight appearances during his debut season. Despite this bright start, Somerville struggled to maintain his spot in the senior lineup and did not feature at the top level for the Bulldogs throughout the 1987 or 1988 seasons. Seeking a lifeline, he was traded to the Brisbane Bears for the 1989 season but was unable to crack the senior side in Queensland, leaving his brief 1986 cameo as his only taste of VFL/AFL football.
