Bio
Born into veritable sporting royalty as the son of the MCC's first secretary and inaugural Test match umpire, Curtis Reid carved out his own path as a sturdy defender for Melbourne at the turn of the century. Recruited from the Rovers Football Club in Western Australia, he brought a surveyor's precision to the backline, though his VFL career was often punctuated by the demands of his profession. He managed 20 senior appearances for the Redlegs between 1899 and 1903 before returning to the west to play for East Fremantle, effectively closing the chapter on his Victorian career. Tragically, Reid's life was cut short just a decade later when he contracted typhoid fever while surveying remote land in Queensland, passing away at the age of 36.
