Stats
Bio
Recruited from Inverleigh in the local Geelong district, Dale Smyth was a diminutive rover who progressed rapidly through the ranks to make his senior debut as a 17-year-old in Round 4, 1980. Despite showing promise early, Smyth struggled to cement a permanent spot in a Geelong senior side stacked with midfield talent, managing just sporadic appearances across his tenure at Kardinia Park. While his senior career was brief, he established a significant legacy in the lower grades as a key member of the Cats' dominant second tier, playing in three consecutive reserves premierships from 1980 to 1982. After leaving the VFL, Smyth returned to the GDFL where he served as a coach for his home club and later became a well-known local football radio commentator.
