Recruited from Sturt in the SANFL, Damian Kitschke was a heavy-set ruckman and forward who provided immediate physical presence for St Kilda during the early 1990s. Although taken with pick 57 in the 1987 National Draft, he did not debut until the 1990 season, where he quickly established himself as a serviceable tall option capable of relieving the first-choice ruck or parking himself in the goal square. Standing 193cm and weighing 101kg, Kitschke used his frame to advantage in contests and held his spot in the senior side for the majority of his two-year tenure, playing 29 games before departing Moorabbin at the conclusion of 1991.
