Bio
Recruited from the Eastern Ranges with high expectations, Damien Ryan arrived at Punt Road as the 11th overall pick in the 1994 National Draft. A defender who typically operated across half-back, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Tigers' best 22, managing 30 games over three seasons before being delisted at the end of 1998. He was thrown an AFL lifeline by St Kilda, who selected him with pick 43 in the 1998 National Draft, and he immediately repaid their faith with a career-best campaign in 1999. Ryan played 20 games in his debut season at Moorabbin, appearing to have established himself as a reliable defensive option, but he could not sustain that continuity in the following years. He added just ten more senior appearances over the next two seasons before his career at the top level concluded at the end of 2001.
