Stats
Bio
Recruited from the local Carlton District side, Dan Whannell was a diminutive footballer who battled for opportunities at Princes Park in the early 1920s. Standing just 173cm, he served as a depth player for the Blues, capable of rotating through the forward line or filling gaps in the field. He made his debut in 1921 but found it difficult to cement a permanent spot in the senior 18, managing just 14 appearances across three seasons during a period where the club hovered on the edge of the finals. Whannell's career ended after the 1923 season, and his life was cut tragically short when he passed away in 1929 at the age of 30.
