Bio
Born in New Zealand with Maori heritage, Daniel McAlister was a highly touted junior who moved to Tasmania and impressed with the Tassie Mariners before Essendon selected him with pick 5 in the 1996 National Draft. Standing 185cm, the utility possessed clear talent but found his career cruelled by persistent injuries and the challenge of cracking into the Bombers' powerhouse lineup of the late 1990s and early 2000s. After managing just three senior games in his first five years, he was delisted at the end of 2001, only for the club to offer him a lifeline by re-drafting him with pick 64. He added three final matches to his tally in 2002 but could not cement a spot in the senior side, eventually departing Windy Hill with a legacy of unfulfilled potential.
