Bio
The son of former Fitzroy and inaugural West Coast Eagle Peter McConnell, Daniel McConnell was a big-bodied utility taken by the Eagles with pick 26 in the 2003 National Draft. After spending his first season developing in the WAFL with East Perth, he broke into the senior side in 2005 but saw his progress halted by a severe bout of glandular fever. Citing homesickness, he requested a return to Victoria at the end of that season and was traded to North Melbourne in a deal that famously helped West Coast secure the draft pick used to select premiership captain Shannon Hurn. McConnell managed just four games in two seasons at Arden Street, struggling to cement a spot as a half-forward before being delisted in 2007 and forging a successful local career in the Eastern Football League.
